Procrastination

I'm suffering from a severe lack of motivation, probably at least partly related to all the beer I drank at lunch time, at one of our many end of year lunches.

Gah. And now the coffee cart is closed, so I can't even perk myself up that way. Perhaps I'll take a power nap under the desk, or something.

So what do you do when you can't be bothered doing anything else? Procrastinate! Perhaps I'll go home and watch another 10 hours of the West Wing. That's what I did yesterday.

In other news....
Dear Mr. Peard,

It's our pleasure to announce that you have won the Steve Johnson Prize for First Year Linguistics in 2006.

This prize is awarded each year to the best student overall in the first year units in linguistics. Your outstanding results in LING101 and LING102 have made you that student this year.

Your student record will be amended to record your achievement. The prize also includes an award of $100, which will be forwarded to you from the University Administration in due course.

Congratulations, and best wishes for your future studies.

Yours, etc.
My good angel says "Wow, well done, you must be really smart". By bad angel says "Pah, everyone else was just stupid. Well done for not being stupid, if you can call that an achievement".

I know, I know. But they keep me competitive.

Nothing Much

In the spate of new and revitalised blogs, I don't want to be left behind! But I'm not quite ready to write about what's going on in M-L land yet, so in the meantime I'll conduct a quick poll. There are a bunch of photo's on the back of my door. Whom are they of?

KJE40%
M-LP24%
LLP16%
LEK12%
PRM8%
NSB-C8%
SC-B4%
GBM4%
SNC4%
AS4%
GC4%
JLI4%
CLG4%
BGP4%
DR4%

Yes, I know that the percentages add up to more than 100%. That's because there's more than one person in some photos. The figures should read "24% of the photos have M-LP in them", rather than "24% of the photos are of M-LP (only)".

There's a very clear winner :-)

Do you think you're underrepresented? Well, send me photos then!
